About
I’m Maria Krichallo, a garden designer based in West London, working across London, the surrounding areas and internationally. I design thoughtful, modern gardens shaped around the lives, needs and personalities of the people who use them — creating spaces where they can step away from the demands of modern life, reconnect with themselves and spend meaningful time with family.
My work brings together sensitivity to the landscape, carefully considered structure, immersive naturalistic planting and close attention to detail. The result is gardens that support a deeper connection to nature and enrich everyday life.
I work closely with a trusted team of professional landscapers and specialist suppliers to ensure every project is delivered to a high standard, giving clients confidence that their garden is in experienced hands from concept through to completion.
I came to garden design after a successful career in the telecommunications industry, where I worked on large-scale projects across multiple countries. My technical background and project management skills support the smooth and precise delivery of every design. Drawn to creative work and the transformative power of gardens, I re-trained as a garden designer at the London College of Garden Design, Kew. I graduated with distinction, and my final project was shortlisted for the Society of Garden Designers Awards, recognising its conceptual clarity and design ambition.
I now run my own studio, designing private gardens ranging from small front gardens to large family gardens, taking on projects in London, the surrounding areas and internationally.
HOW I WORK
Considered as a whole
I design gardens as a whole — bringing together the architecture of the house, the shape of the space, materials, planting and the way you want to live outdoors. I consider how you move through the garden, what you see from inside, how different areas connect, and what the space needs to accommodate.
Layout, levels, materials, planting and details are developed together, creating a cohesive and balanced design.
Immersive by design
I like gardens that reveal themselves gradually rather than giving everything away at once.
Planting, changes in level, framed views and carefully positioned paths create a sense of movement and discovery. Spaces can feel open in one moment and enclosed in the next, with planting softening the boundaries between architecture and landscape.
The planting is naturalistic in character, but carefully composed to give each space its own atmosphere.
Beautifully resolved
The character of a garden comes through its details: the proportion of a terrace, the way paving meets planting, the choice of stone, the position of a tree, or how a piece of furniture sits within the space.
I develop these details carefully and carry the design through to construction, working with trusted contractors and remaining involved as the garden takes shape.
